Emanuele Crialese, the director of "Respiro", has created a poignant character study of the Mancuso family, who leave their medieval hamlet in Sicily, and their experience immigrating to America at the turn of the century. Although born in Rome, Mr. Crialese is fascinated with Sicily and its culture which he has studied in his last two films.
The film stars Vincenzo Amato as 'Salvatore Mancuso' the patriarch of the family and Charlotte Gainsborough as 'Lucy', a mysterious woman they meet during their maritime voyage to Ellis Island.
