In 1859, Antonio Salviati, a Venetian lawyer wanted to restore the reputation of Venetian glass that was being overshadowed by England and Austria. He enlisted the collaboration of the best masters of glass and invented a new method of fabrication. Salviati also created a school to teach future artists the various glass techniques.
