Carlo Scarpa, born in1906, was arguably the world's best-known Italian architect of the twentieth century.
He possessed an exceptional understanding of raw materials such as iron, marble, wood, copper and most especially, glass. He designed glass for Venini and furniture before embarking on his illustrious career as an architect.
In the month of June 2006, Italy celebrated the 100th anniversary of his birth with a number of exhibitions.
