When the Olympics open next month in Torino, there will be a new venue for figure skating and short track meets.
The new Palavela is architect, Gae Aulenti’s reinterpretation of Palazzo a Vela, a building inaugurated as part of the Italia ’61 centennial celebrations for the Unification of Italy.
The hexagonal-based building is inscribed in a circle with a diameter of 130 meters. It is composed of a reinforced sail-like structure constructed on three arches.
