Pieve San Leolino

images23.jpeg
The Romanesque Pieve (parish church) of San Leolino is probably of 8th-century origin and was completely rebuilt in the 12th-century in Romanesque style.

Inside there is a beautiful 14th-century cloister, as well as a 13th-century alterpiece (Meliore di Jacopo), a 15th-century triptych by the "Maestro di Panzano" and two glazed tabernacles attributed to Giovanni della Robbia.

We recently attended an evening classical concert of Guitar and Violin at San Leolino sponsored by Frank and Judy Grace of Molino di Grace winery with a full buffet dinner in the adjacent cloister afterwards.

The Pieve of San Leolino is located a short distance out of Panzano. You can find the Pieve by walking or driving south along the Chiantigiana. After passing the last houses in Panzano, you turn left on a dirt road and go uphill to San Leolino. A short distance further on, to your right, there is a sign indicating the way downhill to another worthy destination, The Oratory of Sant'Eufrosin.

There are no regular opening hours but try ringing at the Church.
