The best known of these legends dates back to 1490, when the Milanese nobleman Ughetto Atellani fell in love with the beautiful Adalgisa, the baker’s daughter. For the love of Adalgisa, Ughetto began to work in the bakery and, in order to win her love, invented a sweet bread, known as Panettone.
