Marina della Lobra is a short walk down the coast from Riviera San Montano where the elegant Villa Bougainvillea is located.
Marina della Lobra is a small fishing village with houses built along the hillside and around the harbor. The magical island of Capri looms large in the distance. You can find a few good fish restaurants and a simple alimentari (grocery store) here.
At the entrance of the village there is the Church of Santa Maria della Lobra (Our Lady of the Lobra), built in 1528 to replace the former ancient christian church that was built upon an ancient pagan temple. Inside the church there is a beautiful pavement in majolica tile of the 18th century and a vaulted ceiling. Near the church there is a Franciscan convent. Inside its cloister are kept some archaeological remains of the Greek and Roman age.

Our vacation to Villa Bougainvillea was absolutely wonderful. My husband and I travelled with our mothers and our three adult children and we all had a fantastic time. The villa is magnificent and as beautiful as the new pictures are on this site, they still do not do justice to the architecture and landscaping of Bougainvillea. The younger crowd spent most of their days down by the bay sunning themselves, reading, listening to music, talking to the locals. Patrick and his young wife went scuba diving one day. They were able to make arrangements to be picked up right at the villa, by a master diver and all of the necessary equipment. The rest of us rented a boat at Marina Della Lobra, and our Captain Liberatore was able to take us on a tour all around the Isle of Capri, into some of the coves and caves, much to our amazement. We were able to go ashore and tour the town, have lunch and then hop back on the boat for the rest of the tour. Our most enjoyable moments, however, were right in the villa, enjoying the flowers, the view and swimming in the pool. As beautiful as the furnishings were, the Villa is still very homelike and comfortable. We gathered together to drink a toast to the day each sunset. On our last night at the Villa, we arranged for Anna the Awesome Cook to come and prepare a delightful meal in the Italian tradition. The owners, Lucianna and Luigi could not have been more gracious and welcoming. We can not forget George, who came every day to make sure everything from the flowers to the pool to the bathrooms were in excellent condition. Ours was truly the vacation of a lifetime and our thanks to all who helped make it possible. Mille grazie! The Dougherty Family
