In 1875 the nobleman Vincenzo Carfratelli Seghetti, grandfather of the present owners, decided to surround his country residence with an enchanting garden.
The imposing building of medieval origin was devoid of trees because of its defensive function. The botanist and landscape gardener Ludwig Winter (born 1845 in Heidelberg and employed in the Jardins des Tuilleries in Paris) was summoned. The truly majestic queens of the garden are the tall, monumental and solitary palm trees. Ludwig Winter was the first landscape gardener to dare to plant palms in the open air. Before this date they could only be seen in large greenhouses.
There are some truly remarkable examples in the park: Jubaea Spectabilis, Washingtonia Philifera, Brahea Dulcis, Chamaerops Excelsa, Phoenix Dactilifera, Canariensis, Cordilina Australis, Cycas Revoluta. These monoliths stand in lawns of emerald green.
