New Years in Italy

| | Comments (0)

Like many countries in the world, Italy celebrates the New Year with fireworks. The Italian people also have a tradition of throwing old things out of their windows.....

hoping to forget all the bad things of the past year and have luck and fortune in the new.

At midnight everyone proposes a toast to the New Year with Italian sparkling wine like spumanti or prosecco!

New Year's Day dinner consists of many courses that differ from region to region. However, zampone or cotechino with lentils, a typical Christmas period dish, is present on every table from Aosta in Piemonte to Trapani in Sicily. Lentils symbolize money so they are eaten as much as possible! Zampone is a symbol of abundance because it is the foot of the pig and is rich in fat!
