Balbianello

| | Comments (0)

This villa is the late Count Guido Monzino’s estate on the tiny island of Comacina, of Lake Como.

The arrival at the landing turns this trip into an Arcadian delight. The magnificent gardens of this private villa are open to the public.

The very little known astonishing collection of art in the villa can be viewed by appointment only. Ask your concierge to arrange it. The villa holds a rich collection of Chinese, African and Pre-Columbian art, priceless eighteenth century English and French antiques and a small museum displaying documents and momentoes from his travels. But this location's true masterpiece has to be its view across the terraced garden, dominated by the elegant, three-arched loggia towering on the highest point of the promontory.

Open: Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday, 10 am to 12:30 pm and 3:30 pm to 6:30 pm. There is an admission charge.

Access by boat from Sala Comacina.

Concerts are held in the gardens of the beautiful Villa di Balbianello, located on a promontory right on the Lake of Como. Guests are taken by boat, the only access to the Villa.
