Signora Donatella Cinelli Colombini is the owner of Fattoria dei Barbi, a internationally famous Brunello di Montalcino producer. She is a dedicated ambassador of Tuscan culture and has instituted a number of programs at her farms to further the understanding of Tuscan food and wine traditions.
In the last few years, she has taken on an extraordinary project which she calls Casato Prime Donne.
Signora Colombini at Casato started this project Prime Donne with an emphasis on women in the wine world. The feminine Brunello is selected and overseen in various phases of his ageing by a panel of four expert female tasters from Italy, Great Britain, Germany and USA.
Casato adds the words "Prime Donne" to its name because the team working here is entirely female. A rare if not unique feat in the italian countryside , Casato will have a "pink" winery, the owner Donatella Cinelli Colombini is a woman, her assistants in promoting the wines are women, the label designer is a woman and the wine maker will be a woman. Working in harmony with this team the agronomist and the enologist, on the on the other hand are both men.

Reservations for cellar tours are scheduled two weeks in advance.
The frost of 1985 destroyed the prestigious olive groves of Barbi , so their current extra-virgin olive oil comes from young olive trees.
Olives cultivated are: Frantoio and Correggiolo.
Directions to Fattoria dei Barbi, Montalcino:
From Pienza, travel in the direction of Siena, pass San Quirico d'Orcia, that is about 15 minutes from Pienza, and then, after few km, you will find on the right signs for Montalcino.
As you enter Montalcino, you will find a intersection where you will see the sign for Castelnuovo dell'Abate. After about 4 km in that direction you will find the sign for the Fattoria dei Barbi on their left.
