At Casa d'Ambra, the steep terraces have been carved out of the rock of Monte Epomeo. A monorail had to be installed to harvest the grapes, much the same way as in Cinque Terre, in Valtellina and in Portugal’s Valle del Duoro.
The proprietor, Don Mario D’Ambra died in 1988 but his nephews Corrado, an architect and businessman and Andrea, an enologist continue the tradition.
The winery was originally founded: 1888
The family’s best vineyard is Vigna Frassitelli dedicated to Biancolella grapes.
Biancolella is made in a cru version called Le Vigne di Piellero.
