WINERY Cassis Wine 13260 Cassis Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur / Bouches-du-Rhône France
Cassis is one of the oldest winemaking areas in France. We know for certain that vines existed
already in Marseilles and the surrounding area even before the Greek sailors commanded by Protis arrived in around 600 B.C. The Greek sailors and the farmers, the Phocaeans - greatly improved viticulture methods.
The first written traces of wine-making in Cassis date from the XII th century.
In 1936, the Cassis wines were the first to receive the Appelation d’Origine Controlée in the area. The quality of Wines from Cassis, whites, reds or the rosés is not exclusively based on the ancient traditions.
The white wines
White grape varieties are exclusively used, Sauvignon, Marsanne, Ugni Blanc, Clairette and
Bourboulenc.
The red wine varietals:
Mourvedre, cinsault and Grenache
