Housed in a small 18th century brick-and-stucco manor with a distinctive facade; a double staircase, lined with wrought-iron railings, curves up from the stone-paved courtyard to either side of the main entrance, above which is an ornate wrought-iron balcony. Solid traditional winemaking-a combination of grapes from grand cru and premier cru sites, and painstaking care in the cellars, including a commitment to aging in oak-have made pricey Bollinger champagnes consistently top-notch.

“I drink it when I’m happy and when I’, sad. Sometimes I drink it when I’m alone. when I have company I consider it obligatory. I trifle with it if I’m not hungry and I drink it when I am. Otherwise I never touch it-unless I’m thirsty.” Madame Lily Bollinger
