In 1944, Bruto and Poerio Carlo Carpigiani invented the world's first automatic ice cream machine -"Autogelatiera". In 1946 they formed a Company to build on the success they had created. In July 1989, Carpigiani became part of the management group, Ali Group of Milan. They now sell commercial ice cream makers, soft serve and granita machines throughout the world. They also have a school to train gelato artisans led by Gianpaolo Valli.
