VILLAGE OF NOTE Van Gogh at Auvers sur Oise Auvers sur Oise Ile-de-France France
Auvers sur Oise was the last home of the painter Vincent Van Gogh, as well as other Impressionists. Visiting Auvers sur Oise is like stepping into a Van Gogh painting, and for good reason. Although Van Gogh spent only the last few months of his life here, he painted some of his most famous paintings of the scenery in the town. As you walk through the town (walking tour guide provided by the tourist bureau, signs from the train station point the way to the bureau) signs show the paintings in front of the originals. The gardens of Dr. Gachet and the church of Notre-Dame of Auvers are here. Up the hill from the church the graves of Van Gogh and his brother Theo are in the cemetery.
