ARCHITECTURE OF NOTE Trabucchi Vieste (FG) Gargano Peninsula Puglia Italy
Giant wooden structures used for fishing along the Gargano peninsula. There is one in San Lorenzo that is still in use while others have been turned into restaurants near Peschici.
Four men usually work on the trabucchi. One is charged with being the lookout and posts himself far out on a horizontal pole while the others are in charge of hoisting the heavy net using a winch and deciding which fish to keep.
These trabucchi are protected like national monuments. The oldest trabucco "Saint Francisco" can be found in Vieste.
